THE OUTSIDER’S HAVEN YOGA

Where misfits feel welcome.

Where outcasts belong.

Where every body - tall, short, supple, compact, flexible, stiff - is embraced, honored, and cherished as it is.

Where you are in control to decide what you want and need.

For people who know that some mobility and stability would do their body good, but aren’t sure yoga is “their thing”. For those who know some mindfulness and awareness would be great for their mental health, but don’t want to get all mystical.

I’m here to bring uncomplicated but challenging yoga and mindfulness to the non-yogis in a way that’s not too serious, feels safe, is a little edgy, and gets you lost in some amazing rock, metal, emo, grunge and pop-punk.

  • "I never feel intimidated or like I can't follow along without looking at you. Other teachers seem to assume I know what to do next. You have a gift and your own way of conveying it."

  • "I'm a runner. Prior to class with Jess I was experiencing pain in my right hip halfway through my runs. After a Friday night class with Jess, I was able to get through my Saturday run without that hip tightness."

  • "Jess's classes are truly for everyone! She makes class fun and she flows at a manageable pace, while gently challenging you."

Yoga in the western world has been presented as an aesthetic practice that makes many feel like they’re on the outside looking in with fears of not being [insert insecurity] enough to give it a try. It’s also often marketed with mystical or hippy aesthetics, leaving others to feel put off thinking that there might be chanting, incense, crystals or religion.

F-that. Do not let marketers and influencers keep you from trying an ancient practice that can greatly benefit your mind and body. Come as you are. Perfectly imperfect and painfully human. Take the pieces you need and leave behind what doesn’t serve you.
