WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

I want class to feel like a warm hug.

What we see online and in advertisements can make yoga look beautiful, but also complicated, intimidating and inaccessible to many people. Big, bendy, balance-y poses with all the perfect yoga-gear and perfect yoga bodies may resonate for some people. But that’s not what yoga is about, and in so many ways misses the point entirely. We come to the mat to practice getting in touch with our body, our mind, and our breath so that when we’re off the mat, we can live a more purposeful and aligned life.

Pulling from a variety of yoga styles, including Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin and Restorative, I strive to make classes uncomplicated so you can easily access the movements (some may consider that boring). I use alternative music to help some of us let go and release (others may find that jarring). I keep my cues in plain English (some may find the lack of Sanskrit disrespectful). My classes will be for some and not for others. Like cilantro. I hope if it is for you, you’ll join me sometime!

Let’s keep it simple and have fun together!

FAQs

  • Absolutely! My goal is to teach yoga in a way that’s accessible to beginners but still engaging for those more familiar with yoga. I’m always happy to answer any questions you have about yoga before you start, so don’t hesitate to reach out!

  • You’ll want a yoga mat - something that gives you a little grip and squishiness between you and the floor. I’m a HUGE fan of using props and will cue you to use them, so it would be awesome for you to grab two yoga blocks and a yoga blanket (which can literally be a thick towel or blanket from around the house). These are all things that can cost a little or a lot. Especially if you’re just getting started, no need to go crazy! You can always upgrade later once you’re hooked.

Dress comfy (no fancy yoga clothes required) and let your toes be free (no shoes and socks).

  • Check out the Join a Class page for all the details. You’ll simply click on the link on the day and time of the class (please join a bit early to get settled). If you’re not able to join live but still want the class, be sure to sign up for emails on my home page to receive recordings to take on your own time!

  • I would love to be able to see you and connect with my virtual students. Please know that this is a safe space where you will not be judged. Remember, you can not suck at yoga. That all said, I want you to be comfortable, so the choice is ultimately yours!

ABOUT ME

Hi! I’m Jessica. Mom. Wife. Empath. Scorpio. Lover of all animals, eater of none. Corporate rebel. I love the feel and smell of paper and fear the eventual death of the printed page. My favorite part of going to the movies is the trailers. There’s always music playing - any moment is better with the right soundtrack. Storyteller and explainer working on my listening skills. In a zombie apocalypse, would accidentally end up the leader of a colony.

At an early age, we define ourselves as “athletic” or “unathletic”, usually based on if we participate in organized sports. And so I went through life believing I was unathletic. In my 20s and 30s, I finally began to enjoy movement through fitness, but rooted in punishing my body into hopeful results. A bit of this, a bit of that, rarely consistent, and with plenty of stress and anxiety layered in. I dabbled in yoga, but it just wasn’t my thing.

During the pandemic, I started taking yoga classes via Peloton. I approached it with no expectations. Through amazing beginner classes that encouraged (celebrated!) modifications and using props, I felt embraced. It became less about an end goal or aesthetic results and more about enjoying the calm and peaceful strength I felt during and after class.

I’m not 100% sure why I started researching yoga teacher training. I just felt compelled. I entered the training wanting to break down each of the poses and understand anatomy (which I got), but was absolutely transformed by the philosophy, meditation, and breath work.

Life isn’t easy. Being human is messy. In a world that thrives on us hating ourselves and each other, it’s rebellious to love yourself and be kind. You’re perfectly imperfect, and you are loved.
